Discovering the Unattended Death
Early one Wednesday morning, a property manager in Pasco County contacted our Bio-One team regarding an unattended death in an apartment. The deceased individual, a 47-year-old male, had not been seen for a period of 5 to 7 weeks. Responding quickly to the apartment community, our Bio-One team went to work and remediated the difficult situation.
Comprehensive Cleanup Process
During the remediation, our team focused on disinfecting the impacted area. As per the apartment community’s request, we also removed all the carpet and padding within the unit. This also assisted with odor remediation. During these types of clean ups, we always make sure to exercise caution and only remove items that are completely necessary.
The Unexpected Challenge of Gypcrete
During the remediation, our team encountered an unexpected challenge: gypcrete. Gypcrete is often used in condos and apartment communities and lies above the subfloor. The material looks like regular concrete but is more delicate and easily crumbles. In this case, the gypcrete was heavily impacted by biohazardous material. Taking careful steps to break apart this layer of flooring, we successfully removed approximately 200 pounds of contaminated material. This meticulous process involved chipping out and manually removing the affected area, followed by thorough disinfection, and applying sealant.
Commitment to Helping Others
In Pasco County, we understand that every biohazard cleanup requires not only expertise but also a sensitive approach that respects the wishes of those affected. We remain dedicated to serving our community with the highest level of professionalism and care.
