As Co-owner of Bio-One El Paso, Joe Zapata Jr is a U.S. Veteran that has approximately 12 years of Federal Service combined serving 6 years in the U.S. Coast Guard and 6 in the Department of Veterans Affairs Police from April 2005 to May 2011. His duty stations include Port Townsend, WA mainly conducting Search and Rescue Operations, Drug Interdiction, Fisheries and Migrant Operations. He attended the Federal Law Enforcement Training Center (FLETC) in Charleston, South Carolina to attend Boarding Team Member School. He then accepted orders to the Maritime Safety and Security Team San Francisco (MSST 91105) where he spent 3 years. Operations consisted of Maritime Law Enforcement, Tactical Boat Operations, Military Off Loads and serving as a K-9 cover officer. Last year of his Coast Guard career was spent in Dubuque, Iowa on a Bouy Tender working on navigational aids along and on the Mississippi River from Savanah, IL to Saint Paul, MN.
In 2011 was honorably discharged and joined the Department of Veterans Affairs Police in 2016. During his time with the El Paso VA Police Mr. Zapata obtained certifications as a Firearms Instructor, Ground Defense and Recovery Instructor and Executive Protection. After 6 years with El Paso VA Police, he accepted a promotion as a special agent at the Law Enforcement Training Center (LETC) in Little Rock, Arkansas where he was attached to the Technical Division Firearms Section. He then resigned in March of 2023 to pursue entrepreneurship. His Coast Guard values Honor, Respect and Devotion to Duty is the corner stone of who he is. Integrity and dedication to serving his community is what drives him to continue to provide necessary services to the community when in need. As a U.S Veteran and former first responder he brings experience in dealing with the public in high stress situations, leadership in making sure the team is guided in the right direction to execute and accomplish the goal of the project correctly.
